I Designed Our Crypt Panels

The board of directors and its president, Mr. Henry Rahm, generously gave my wife and me two crypts
in this marvelous all-marble building as a gratuity to us for building the original cemetery web site.

The two scarabs in flight are carrying stars in their front claws, and their rear claws. They are ascending, wings outspread, towards each other. The Scarab was the ancient Egyptian symbol of birth and re-birth. The legend that runs across the bottom of both crypts is a reference to the fact that I courted Theresa in a powerful World War II training airplane.

The panels are "Romanized"; as student of history of republican and then imperial Rome, I recognize that Rome gave us one of our most important institutions, the republic; and preserved through the early dark night of barbarism, another important institution, the church; this latter, by Emperor Constantine the Great; with a stroke of his pen, he transformed the unprotected Christian congregations of the empire, overnight, into the protected State "Universal Religion." Thus, the lettering is in archaic Roman script, and the dates are in Roman numerals and words. And thus, the motto, "SPQR".

My wife succumbed to Muscular Dystrophy, "in her own way". I will be next to her shortly. I visit her crypt almost daily, and if anyone should like a tour of the mausoleum, they can arrange a convenient time, or just drop by if the weather is good, approzimately between 4 PM and 5:30 PM. The doors will be open. Or, alternatively, just contact the cemetery at the number below.
